Antonio Banderas wears a Hamilton Khaki Navy

James Mangold's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiered at Cannes in May 2023 and opened in the United States on June 30, the first film in the series distributed by Disney, and a costly one: 384 million dollars worldwide against a net budget around 352 million. The story lands in 1969, with Indy slipping through a New York ticker-tape parade for the Apollo 11 astronauts, and turns on the Antikythera, a mechanism with the power, the film proposes, to change the course of history.

Antonio Banderas plays Renaldo, an old friend of Indy's who operates as an expert frogman, a part Banderas himself called largely a cameo. Renaldo ferries the heroes out over the Mediterranean, dives to the Antikythera wreck to retrieve the artifact, and is murdered by Voller and his crew. On his wrist Hamilton placed a custom Khaki Navy Scuba, and Forbes recorded the details before release: a 40 millimeter stainless steel case, a black dial with nickeled hands finished in Super-LumiNova, the H-10 automatic with its 80 hour power reserve, a black rubber strap, and 100 meters of water resistance. An appropriate choice, the magazine wrote, for the boat captain who seems to appear at the right times to provide the assistance Indy needs. What made the watch custom was never published. Hamilton worked with Ben Wilkinson on the props team to tie its watches to the period of Joanna Johnston's costumes, and the specifics were never released.

The placement drew the industry's official notice. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry ran a news item on the film, listing two Hamiltons: the Boulton, the brand's cushion-shaped 1941 design, on Indy, and the custom Khaki Navy Scuba on, in the federation's phrase, Indy's loyal friend Renaldo. The loyal friend does not survive the film.
