Andy Lau wears a Panerai Luminor

Dan Cheung went to prison because he miscalculated once, and The Adventurers (2017) picks the infamous thief up five years later, recruiting his longtime partner Po Chen and the new recruit Red Ye for a jewel spree that runs from Cannes to Prague, with Jean Reno's Detective Pierre Bissette working to catch him a second time. Andy Lau plays Cheung and produced the film alongside director Stephen Fung, shooting across France and the Czech Republic in the summer of 2016. In the surveillance still from the forest, Lau holds binoculars to his eyes and a dark watch on an olive fabric strap rides his raised left wrist.

The French site Montres-de-Luxe identified that watch as a Panerai Luminor 1950 in black ceramic, and added a now-familiar note: it is very probably Lau's own watch. No other outlet has covered it, and the available frames show the case turned away, so the identification rests on the French report with the screen evidence consistent but not conclusive. The Luminor itself carries real military history. Officine Panerai supplied instruments to the Italian Navy's combat divers in the Second World War, and the bridge clamped over the crown, the detail that makes a Luminor recognizable across a room, was engineered to keep water out of the case.
