Zach Galifianakis wears a Rolex Submariner

The real Ty Warner kept a secret account at UBS in Switzerland from 1996, and at one point it concealed 107 million dollars; when the government caught up with him, he paid an 80 million dollar penalty and walked away with probation and community service while prosecutors asked for prison. He is the sole owner of Ty Inc., rarely gives interviews, and at the height of the Beanie Baby craze his private company is believed to have cleared over 700 million dollars of profit in a single year. The Beanie Bubble, which Kristin Gore wrote and directed with Damian Kulash Jr. for Apple TV+ in July 2023, adapts Zac Bissonnette's book The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute, and tells the story through three women, Elizabeth Banks's Robbie, Sarah Snook's Sheila, and Geraldine Viswanathan's Maya, drawn from the real Patricia Roche, Faith McGowan, and Lina Trivedi.

Zach Galifianakis plays Warner under a bowl of hair and heavy black glasses, and Montres de Luxe identified the watch on his wrist as a Rolex Submariner in yellow gold with a blue dial, noting that it is perfectly visible on the film's poster and in many scenes. The poster proves the point. Warner's hand is raised to his chin, and the gold Submariner sits near the center of the image: gold bracelet, graduated dive bezel, dark dial with luminous markers, a date at three o'clock.

Warner kept the company private, kept himself out of interviews, and kept the Swiss account out of sight entirely. The costume does the opposite, putting gold in plain view from the poster onward. Reviews were mixed; the Rotten Tomatoes consensus praised the cast as an easy watch and called the treatment of the real story shallow.
