Zac Efron wears an Oris Big Crown

Three boys get into trouble, blame a kid who does not exist, and discover that the name works: Ricky Stanicky carries them clear into adulthood as an all-purpose alibi. Peter Farrelly directed the comedy for Prime Video, where it landed in March 2024 with a screenplay credited to six writers and a development run of thirteen years; the project dates to 2010 and was attached to James Franco, then Joaquin Phoenix, then Jim Carrey before Farrelly finally shot it in 2023. Zac Efron leads the film as Dean, one of the three friends, and when their families insist on meeting Ricky at last, the friends hire Rod Rimestead, an eccentric actor played by John Cena, to perform him. On Dean's wrist is an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, and a specific one: the Cervo Volante edition, reference 01 754 7779 4063-SET.

Cervo Volante is the organization that makes leather goods from the hides of red deer culled for environmental reasons, and it makes the straps for this Oris collaboration. That is the point of the edition: a dark brown deer-leather strap under a 38 millimeter steel case, sustainability worked into a classic aviation watch rather than printed on the box.

The dial is soft grey with silver hands and large white Arabic numerals, luminescent coating on both, a ridged steel bezel around it, and an automatic movement with a 38 hour power reserve behind an exhibition caseback. The date is the signature: a central pointer hand sweeping a numbered scale, the feature that gives the Pointer Date its name. The grey of the dial takes its inspiration from the Swiss Alps.
