Warren Beatty wears a Hamilton Pulsar P2

Joe Pendleton is an NFL quarterback who gets yanked up to heaven before his time by an overeager escort angel, then, when the error is found, is dropped into the body of a just-murdered millionaire named Leo Farnsworth. Warren Beatty plays him; he also produced, co-wrote with Elaine May, and co-directed Heaven Can Wait (1978) with Buck Henry, who plays the angel who botched the pickup. James Mason is the celestial supervisor Mr. Jordan, Julie Christie the activist Joe falls for, and Charles Grodin and Dyan Cannon the schemers who killed Farnsworth and cannot understand why he is suddenly acting like a quarterback.

On his wrist is a Hamilton Pulsar P2 in stainless steel, a descendant of the first digital watch ever sold. Hamilton had launched the original Pulsar in 1972 in an 18-karat gold case at $2,100, naming it for the pulsing neutron stars discovered a few years earlier; the P2 was the cheaper steel follow-up. Either way the trick was the same: a blank dark face with no hands and no dial, showing the time in red LEDs only when you pressed the button. By the time the film came out in 1978, Hamilton no longer owned the Pulsar name, and that year it passed to Seiko, which makes Pulsar watches to this day.
