On Warren Beatty's left wrist sits a gold tank watch with a black square dial on a black leather strap. Beatty plays Bugsy Siegel in Barry Levinson's Bugsy, the New York gangster who heads west, sinks mob money into the Flamingo out in the Nevada desert, and is shot dead in 1947 before the casino pays off.

The watch is harder to name than the man wearing it. Wrist Enthusiast, working from the film, reads it as a 1940s Bulova, a Clinton or the closely related Comptroller, going by the rectangular gold case and the shape of the lugs. The site calls this a best guess rather than a confirmed answer, and it flags the catch itself: the dial on screen is dark, where a gold Clinton's would not be. The costume writers at BAMF Style describe the same gold tank watch, down to the black leather strap, and never put a brand on it.

The real Siegel's watch is not a guess. He wore a solid 18-karat gold Bulova Clinton, a square tank case on a basket-weave bracelet, and by Quill & Pad's account it sits today behind glass at the Mob Museum in Las Vegas. That watch is documented down to the metal. The one on the movie star playing him is a gold rectangle on a black strap that careful eyes still cannot name.
