The Secret Agent (2025), Kleber Mendonça Filho's O Agente Secreto, is set in Recife in 1977, deep in Brazil's military dictatorship. Wagner Moura plays Armando Solimões, a professor and technology expert who has angered the wrong people and is now living under the name Marcelo, hiding in a safe house and trying to reach his young son. Moura won Best Actor at Cannes for it, where the film also took Best Director and ended up the most awarded title of the festival. Neon released it in North America.
In this still Marcelo stands at a red payphone under a yellow hood, the wall behind him papered with 1977 campaign posters for Cid Sampaio and Marcos Freire. On his left wrist, hanging at his side, is a vintage gold dress watch on a dark leather strap, its pale dial carrying a small seconds register. The brand does not read in the frame, and no source has named it.
