John Ingram is a lawyer, and in The Unforgivable, the 2021 Netflix drama, he is the rare one who still believes people deserve a second chance. Vincent D'Onofrio plays him as a big, gray-bearded man who listens more than he speaks. Here he sits at a conference table in a dark suit and a burgundy tie, hands folded over an open legal pad. Ruth Slater, just out of prison after twenty years, has come to him for help finding the little sister she left behind, and because he means it, he says yes.
On his left wrist, half under a shirt cuff as his hands rest on the pad, is a watch, and it is a plain one. A round steel case, a pale silvered dial on a dark leather strap, a crown at three, and not much else to go on. There is no chronograph and no diving bezel, nothing that announces itself across a room. It is the kind of watch a careful man buys once and then wears for thirty years without ever telling you what it is.
Nobody has identified this watch. No prop-house list and no watch blog has ever named it, and the single frame we have catches it side-on, the dial washed pale by the light and the brand impossible to read. So all we can honestly say is what we can see, a modest dress watch on the wrist of a modest man. For a lawyer who measures himself by the second chances he hands to other people, a watch that asks for nothing may be the right one to be wearing.
