Falling (2020) is Viggo Mortensen's debut as a director; he wrote it, directed it, and stars. He plays John, a gay man living in California with his partner Eric, played by Terry Chen, and their young daughter. The story follows John caring for his father Willis, played by Lance Henriksen, a homophobic, dementia-stricken old man who still lives on the family farm near Boonville, in upstate New York, where John grew up.

The identification comes from a single watch-spotting writeup, and the film keeps the watch in the background; beyond the brand and the steel case, little else is established.
