Valérie Lemercier wears a Hermès Slim d'Hermès

Marie-Francine is fifty when her husband leaves her and her job disappears in the same stretch, and the comedy that carries her name (2017, sold internationally as 50 Is the New 30) sends her back to her childhood bedroom in her parents' apartment to start over. Valérie Lemercier wrote the film, directed it, and plays the title role, with Patrick Timsit and Denis Podalydès alongside her; the second act gives Marie-Francine a romance with a chef. The key art catches the register exactly: Lemercier wide-eyed in tortoiseshell glasses over the rim of an enormous café au lait bowl, a grown woman breakfasting like a schoolgirl again.

The French site Montres-de-Luxe identified her watch as a Slim d'Hermès, 32 millimetres, quartz, in rose gold. Nobody else has documented it, and the press images keep her wrists out of reach, so the identification stands on that one report. The watch itself is recent history rather than heritage: Hermès has built watches in earnest since the late 1970s, but the Slim line only arrived in 2015, an ultra-thin dress watch whose airy, open numerals were drawn for the house by the graphic designer Philippe Apeloig. A rose gold one is a quietly expensive thing for a woman sleeping in her childhood bedroom, which may be the costume team's whole point about the life she just lost.
