Transformers opens at a U.S. forward base in Qatar, where Tyrese Gibson's Tech Sergeant Epps and a Special Operations team are going about a normal deployment until a Decepticon tears the place apart. In the team shots before the attack, Epps stands in his desert fatigues with a rifle slung and an MTM Patriot on his wrist. It is the placement MTM is proudest of: the company confirms Gibson wore the Patriot in the film, and he kept it on through two more Transformers movies.
The Patriot is a working tool, not a costume flourish. It runs a Japanese Miyota quartz movement in a 44.5mm stainless steel case, with a sapphire crystal, a unidirectional dive bezel, two hundred meters of water resistance, and Super-LumiNova on the hands. It does not use tritium, whatever the internet says. Blacked out and oversized, it is exactly the kind of watch a real Air Force tech sergeant might strap on for a deployment, which is presumably why it landed on Epps and stayed there.
