Black Moon Rising (1986), directed by Harley Cokeliss from a script John Carpenter co-wrote years earlier, casts Tommy Lee Jones as Quint, a freelance thief hired to steal an incriminating data cassette from a corporation. When the job gets complicated, Quint stashes the cassette inside a prototype supercar, the Black Moon, only for a high-tech car-theft ring run by Ed Ryland (Robert Vaughn) to make off with the car. He works with Nina (Linda Hamilton), one of Ryland's own thieves, to get it back.
Quint's tool for the job is a Seiko UC-2000, the wrist computer Seiko launched in 1984 under its "Information Instruments" line: a digital watch that paired with a detachable QWERTY keyboard dock and stored phone numbers and memos. In the film the unit sits on its keyboard base over the heist blueprints, a thief planning a building entry with what was, in 1984, a watch trying to be a computer.
