Tom Holland wears a Fossil Coachman

Ruben Fleischer's Uncharted (2022) casts Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake, a New York bartender who pickpockets his own customers between pours, until Victor Sullivan recruits him with two hooks at once: the lost gold of the Magellan expedition and Nate's missing brother Sam, who left behind postcards and a ring handed down from their ancestor Sir Francis Drake. The film earned 407.1 million dollars against a 120 million dollar budget, enough to stand as the fourth-highest-grossing video game film on release, with 41 percent reviews and a B plus from audiences.

On Drake's wrist, including in the wrecked-galleon promotional image held in evidence, sits a steel chronograph on a wide brown leather cuff. The identification has an unusual timeline. A Tom Holland fan style blog named the watch in October 2020, sixteen months before the film opened, working from set photographs: a Fossil Coachman chronograph, listed by that blog and the spotting databases as reference CH2565, a 45-millimeter fashion piece that sold for about 135 dollars. No watch publication ever covered it, and Fossil never produced an Uncharted edition. Even in the small surviving frame, the cuff backing that spreads behind the case is the visible signature of the model.

The film gives the watch no story of its own. The objects that carry meaning are Sam's postcards and the Drake ring; the watch is simply what Nate wears while he climbs through cargo planes and pirate ships. There is a fit there worth noting as a reading rather than a fact: a bartender who lifts wallets for rent money wears a 135-dollar Fossil, not a watch with a marketing campaign behind it, and the costume is more honest for it. The production has never said whether the choice was that deliberate.
