Barry Seal was a TWA pilot who became a drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel and then an informant for the DEA, and Doug Liman's American Made (2017) tells his story on the director's own terms: "a fun lie based on a true story," with Tom Cruise playing a Seal who, as Liman put it, is inspired by the stories rather than the biography. The film follows the money through the early 1980s until it runs out the only way it could. Sentenced to community service, Seal cannot hide from the cartel, and an assassin shoots him dead outside the Salvation Army building where he reports every night.
Seal's wrist tells its own two-part story, and no one has ever properly identified either part. In the still of him striding past his plane with a duffel over his shoulder, he wears a watch on a silver band set with turquoise stones, the Native American style several outfit blogs noticed. In other scenes the blogs describe a white-dialed watch on a wide black leather bund strap. This entry once named that second configuration a Nemesis cuff watch, but the claim traces to shopping guides matching lookalike products for purchase, and the same aggregator offered two different Nemesis models for the same wrist. A budget cuff watch fits everything we know about how the production dressed Seal; which one it actually was, nobody has documented.
