Simu Liu wears an Omega Seamaster

In September 2012, about 300 feet down in the North Sea, a commercial diver named Chris Lemons was cut off from his ship. The dive support vessel Bibby Topaz had lost its dynamic positioning system, and as the ship drifted off station, Lemons' umbilical, the line that carried his breathing gas, hot water, and communications, tangled in the manifold he was working on and snapped. Alex Parkinson co-directed a 2019 documentary about the accident with Richard da Costa, then returned to the story as a feature, directing Last Breath from a script he wrote with Mitchell LaFortune and David Brooks. Finn Cole plays Lemons; Woody Harrelson is Duncan Allcock, the diver who waits in the bell; and Simu Liu, best known as Marvel's Shang-Chi, is David Yuasa, who works the seabed beside Lemons and is named for the real diver who was there.

Liu wears an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Chronograph, steel on a steel bracelet with a black dial and a flash of orange. Omega introduced the Planet Ocean in 2005 as the deep end of the Seamaster catalog: 600 meters of water resistance, a choice of black or orange bezels, and the co-axial escapement the brand had bought from the English watchmaker George Daniels in 1999. Orange has been the line's signature color ever since. The case also carries a helium escape valve at 10 o'clock, a feature that matters only to saturation divers, the small population that lives in pressurized chambers and rides a bell down to the seabed to work. The film is about three of them.

The rescue in the film belongs to Yuasa. When the ship loses position, Yuasa gets himself up onto the manifold; Lemons' line tangles in the structure below and parts. Yuasa promises to come back for him, tells him to climb to the top of the structure where he can be found again, and makes it back to the bell to regroup with Allcock. Lemons' bailout tank holds ten minutes of oxygen. By the time Yuasa redeploys and reaches him, that oxygen has been gone for 29 minutes. In the bell, Yuasa and Allcock work over an unresponsive Lemons and have begun to accept that they were too late when Lemons starts to speak. An epilogue reports that the real Chris Lemons was left with no lasting physical or mental damage, and that experts cannot explain why he survived.
