Sean Connery wears a Gruen Precision 510

The last time anyone saw the Gruen was in an elevator. Diamonds Are Forever brought Connery back after George Lazenby's one-film run, and the Gruen Precision 510 came with him, the same small gold manual-wind watch he had been quietly wearing on set. Guy Hamilton directed, and the Gruen appears briefly during the elevator fight sequence where Bond battles Peter Franks.

Diamonds Are Forever is not generally well-regarded among Bond films. Connery looks bored, the Las Vegas setting feels flat after the grandeur of Japan in You Only Live Twice, and the plot involving a diamond-powered satellite is less interesting than it sounds. But the Gruen endures as a quiet piece of Bond history, the watch that was never supposed to be there, worn by an actor who didn't see why he should change watches just because the cameras were rolling.

The Gruen Precision 510 outlasted every official Bond watch not through marketing or product placement but through sheer stubbornness. It was Connery's own timepiece, and Connery wore what he wanted. The watch is barely visible in the one scene it appears, and the Gruen attribution rests on Dell Deaton's later research rather than any production record.
