Sean Bean wears an unidentified watch

Sean Bean plays John Ryder in The Hitcher, a stranger who turns a young couple's road trip into a waking nightmare after they pick him up on a New Mexico highway. Dave Meyers directed this 2007 remake of the 1986 film that had Rutger Hauer in the role. Bean's Ryder just keeps showing up, no matter where the protagonists run, framing them for murders along the way. Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton play the couple, and their spring break trip devolves into desert highways and abandoned gas stations pretty quickly. The original had a grimy, cheap intensity that this version trades for slicker production, but Bean commits completely. Ryder never explains anything, which honestly makes him creepier than any backstory would. The body count just keeps climbing. Bean had spent years playing doomed heroes, so seeing him as the unkillable threat instead was a nice change of pace. His watch has not been identified.
