Sean Bean playing a villain who doesn't die is almost as surprising as Nicolas Cage playing an action hero who reads. Bean is Ian Howe in Jon Turteltaub's 2004 National Treasure, a treasure hunter and financier who starts as Ben Gates's partner and ends as his enemy when Gates refuses to steal the Declaration of Independence — and then Howe steals it himself. The movie is an absurd premise played completely straight, which is why it works: Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, and Bean all act like the treasure-map-on-the-back-of-the-Declaration is perfectly reasonable.
In the image, Bean and Cage lean over a document in church pews, and a watch is visible on Bean's right wrist — steel-cased with what appears to be a dark dial. It hasn't been identified, but for a wealthy British villain bankrolling an illegal treasure hunt, the watch is part of the uniform. Howe dresses like money: dark leather, good watch, the kind of man who funds an expedition to the Arctic and expects results.
