Samuel L. Jackson wears a Hamilton Khaki Field

Clark Johnson's 2003 S.W.A.T. is a team-assembly movie. Samuel L. Jackson plays Sergeant Dan 'Hondo' Harrelson, an LAPD veteran brought back to build and lead a new tactical unit, with Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and LL Cool J among the recruits. Much of the first act is training, and there is a small beat built around his watch: Hondo glances at it to time the squad.

The watch is a Hamilton Khaki Field Multi-Touch, and it is on screen for a reason. Hamilton built it as a tie-in to the film, one of two S.W.A.T. editions the company released with Sony, sold in an aluminum box with a S.W.A.T. sleeve. The Multi-Touch was the touchscreen model, an analog-digital field watch carrying a digital compass and a stopwatch among its functions, which is exactly what the scene asks of it. When he times his recruits, Hondo is not checking the hour. He is using the watch as a tool. It is a big, gadgety thing, and on a man teaching a room of cops to move as one unit, it reads less like jewelry than equipment.
