Roy Scheider wears a Seiko A827

Peter Hyams's 2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984) is the sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey, with Roy Scheider taking over from William Sylvester as Dr. Heywood Floyd. Floyd joins a joint American-Soviet mission back to Jupiter to find out what became of the Discovery and HAL 9000, the crew working uneasily together while tensions between their two countries rise back on Earth.

Floyd wears a digital Seiko, identified on watch forums as an A827, the early-1980s LCD sports line Seiko sold as a Yacht Timer, with a countdown timer alongside the time. In the cabin scenes it reads clearly as a digital LCD on his wrist, but the dial sits at too steep an angle to make out a model number, and the exact suffix after A827 has never been settled. A digital sport watch fits the film's grounded, near-future look.
