There is a scene in Johnny English Reborn in which Britain's worst spy fights himself. English has been drugged so that an enemy can control his body, and he wins back only half of it, which sets one side of him brawling with the other. A watch writer later noticed which side was the good one: the "hero half," as Watchonista put it, is the half wearing the watch. It is a 45mm Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer with a black dial.
Ulysse Nardin was founded in Le Locle in 1846 and spent more than a century making marine chronometers, the shipboard instruments navies relied on to fix their longitude at sea. The Marine Chronometer wristwatch keeps the name and the idea, including a power-reserve indicator on the dial, a reminder of instruments that were not allowed to stop.
The film never lingers on the watch, and most of what is documented about it comes from watch writers rather than the screen. Watchonista, cataloguing Rowan Atkinson's own deep collection of cars and watches, identified the on-screen piece as the 45mm Marine Chronometer with a black dial. The French site Montres de Luxe flagged the same Ulysse Nardin when the film came out.
