Rosanna Arquette wears a Cartier Santos de Cartier

Susan Seidelman's Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) follows Roberta Glass, a bored New Jersey housewife who becomes fixated on a free spirit named Susan after reading the "desperately seeking Susan" messages that Susan's boyfriend keeps placing in the personal ads. A knock on the head leaves Roberta with amnesia, a stranger takes her for Susan, and her tidy suburban life unravels into downtown Manhattan. Rosanna Arquette plays Roberta; Madonna, in her first major film role, plays Susan and took the billing, but the picture belongs to Arquette.

In her suburban life, married to a hot-tub salesman in Fort Lee, Roberta wears a watch identified as a Cartier Santos. Louis Cartier designed the Santos in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, giving it a square bezel held by exposed screws, and it has stayed in the catalog, in one form or another, ever since.
