Roger Moore wears a Seiko M354

Bond goes to space, and his watch becomes a bomb. Lewis Gilbert directed Moonraker as the franchise's answer to Star Wars, the plot ends with a laser battle in orbit above a space station, which is about as far from Ian Fleming's source material as the series ever traveled. The Seiko M354 Memory Bank Calendar is the gadget watch for this outing, modified by Q Branch to conceal an explosive charge and remote detonator. Bond uses it to escape the Moonraker launch platform in the film's climax, planting the charge on an air vent and blowing his way to safety.

The M354 is a blocky digital quartz watch with an angular case and Seiko's early data-storage function, the "memory bank" that could hold a few phone numbers. In 1979, this was advanced consumer technology. The watch's design is aggressively of its era: gold-tone case, rectangular digital display, tiny push buttons. It looks nothing like a traditional Bond watch, and that was the point of the Seiko partnership. Moore's Bond existed at the intersection of spy fantasy and consumer electronics marketing, and the M354 is consumer electronics wearing a tuxedo.
