Robert Redford wears an unidentified watch

Robert Redford plays John Gage in Indecent Proposal, a billionaire who offers a young married couple one million dollars for a single night with the wife. Adrian Lyne directed this 1993 drama, which became a cultural phenomenon despite mixed reviews, largely because the premise made for such good dinner-party arguments. Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson play the couple, who are broke and desperate in Las Vegas when Redford's Gage makes his offer. Redford plays Gage as charming and patient, a man who has enough money to wait for what he wants. The film is less interested in the moral question than in the jealousy and resentment that follow the transaction, as the marriage slowly falls apart under the weight of what both partners agreed to.
