Curtis Hanson's Lucky You (2007) is a Las Vegas poker drama starring Eric Bana as Huck Cheever, a young card player haunted by his estranged father. Robert Duvall plays L.C. Cheever, Huck's father, a two-time World Series of Poker champion whose abandonment of the family shaped his son's entire psychology. The film performed poorly at the box office and disappeared quickly, but the father-son dynamic between Bana and Duvall is the reason to watch it.
The watch on Duvall's wrist is a plot device, not a costume choice. In one pivotal scene, Huck pawns his mother's engagement ring and stakes the pawn ticket against L.C.'s father's watch, the timepiece L.C.'s own father wore through the war. The watch is meant to read as a 1940s-era military or civilian-issue piece, the kind of inherited heirloom that gets passed down the male line in families where men talk about combat through their possessions rather than directly. The specific brand has not been identified, and the prop department's choice would have been something visually period-appropriate rather than a recognizable luxury reference. On a character who guards his emotional life as carefully as L.C. does, an heirloom from the previous generation carries more weight than any current-production Swiss watch could.
