Killer Elite opens with Robert De Niro's Hunter, an aging mercenary, getting taken in Oman, which is the event that drags his old protégé Danny Bryce (Jason Statham) out of retirement. Gary McKendry's 2011 film is loosely drawn from Ranulph Fiennes' book about a supposed real assassination ring. De Niro spends much of it as the man Statham has to go get back. On his wrist is a steel Rolex Submariner with a black dial.
Two watch magazines that catalogued De Niro's screen watches pin it down further. Oracle of Time and Time+Tide both identify it as the Submariner reference 5513, the long-running no-date version Rolex made for decades, a non-chronometer diver simpler than the dated models that followed. In the one clear scene, eating at a roadside stall with Statham beside him, the watch matches: a black dial on a steel Oyster bracelet, the plain no-date diver those write-ups describe.
