Robert De Niro plays Ace as a man who runs a Las Vegas casino for the mob and tries to hold his world together through control of every detail: the suits, the ties, the cufflinks, the watch.

The watch is a Piaget Polo, a red-dialled version in gold. Piaget introduced the Polo in 1979, and it became the luxury sports watch of the jet-set crowd who found the Rolex too common and the Audemars Piguet too restrained, its integrated gold bracelet flashy without quite tipping into vulgar. Ace is a Midwestern bookmaker running a Las Vegas empire for Kansas City bosses, and every object he owns is calibrated to make that look like something grander.
