Robert De Niro wears an unidentified watch

Robert De Niro plays David "Noodles" Aaronson in Once Upon a Time in America, a Jewish gangster who returns to New York's Lower East Side in 1968 after hiding for over thirty years, haunted by betrayal and regret. Sergio Leone directed this 1984 epic, his final film, which moves back and forth across five decades as Noodles remembers his rise from street kid to Prohibition-era crime boss. The film runs nearly four hours in its full version, and Leone takes his time with every scene, letting silences stretch and memories blur together. James Woods plays Max, Noodles' best friend and partner whose ambitions eventually destroy everything they built.
