Near the end of The Raid: Redemption (2011), Lieutenant Wahyu levels a snub-nosed revolver across a book-lined office, his forearm scraped raw, a steel bracelet catching the light at the cuff of a fingerless glove. Pierre Gruno plays Wahyu, the corrupt officer who staged the whole operation. He sent a twenty-man squad into a Jakarta tower block to kill the crime lord Tama Riyadi, who could expose the police Wahyu answered to, and he never told them the raid was unsanctioned or that no reinforcements were coming. The men work that out while they are pinned down and dying.
The watch sits half-buried under the glove, the dial never quite turning to camera. Worn & Wound's survey of Hamilton's screen history identifies it as a Hamilton Lord Chronograph, and records that the film's rookie hero, Rama, wears a Hamilton X-Mach. Two Hamiltons on opposite ends of the same massacre, the one called Lord riding on the wrist of the man who set it in motion.
Hamilton has spent the better part of a century turning up in films like this, hundreds of them. The Lord keeps running through all of it. Wahyu does not last as well: cornered in the final reel, told by Tama that his own superiors had set him up and would have him killed whether he ran or not, he shoots Tama, turns the gun on himself, and finds it empty.
