In the second half of The Ghost Writer, once Adam Lang is back in a shirt and tie and playing the former prime minister in public, a different watch appears on his wrist. Roman Polanski's 2010 thriller has Pierce Brosnan as Lang, a Blair-like politician marooned on a Massachusetts island as charges mount that he signed off on the CIA's rendition of terror suspects.
This one is a gold dress watch on a dark leather strap, rectangular in the case, the small formal kind a man wears with a suit rather than a tracksuit. On a plane, and again on a sofa beside his wife, the gold catches the light, but the case stays turned from the camera and the dial never quite shows.
So it goes no further than a gold rectangular dress watch. The shape has drawn comparisons to a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso and to the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 that Brosnan owns and has worn in other films, and the frame does not settle which, if either, it is.
