At the Barringer Clinic in The Exorcist (1973), the doctors reach the end of what medicine can explain. Regan has been through the scans and the spinal taps, and it is the clinic's own director who finally says the word exorcism to her mother. Peter Masterson plays that director, Dr. Barringer. Worn & Wound's Halloween screen-watch roundup catches him mid-scene as he "takes a moment to show us his" Heuer Autavia, reference 2446, with a Valjoux 72 inside. (The column prints the name as Autiva; the watch is the Autavia.)

Heuer built the Autavia for people who timed things in motion. The name folds together automobile and aviation, and when the wrist version arrived in 1962 it carried a rotating bezel and a hand-wound, three-register chronograph aimed at drivers and pilots. The 2446 ran the Valjoux 72, the column-wheel movement behind many of the era's best chronographs. Collectors now know it as the 'Jochen Rindt,' after the Formula One driver tied to the reference.
