David Cronenberg's Videodrome (1983) is about technology burrowing into human flesh: television signals that cause tumors, videotapes that breathe like organs, a pistol that fuses to a hand. Peter Dvorsky plays Harlan, the engineer who keeps a pirate television station on the air, and on his wrist is a Casio calculator watch, the strap-a-keypad-to-your-arm gadget that in the early 1980s still felt like the future. Harlan runs the signal while James Woods's Max Renn sinks deeper into the Videodrome broadcast and its body-warping effects.
