Paul Stassino wears a Breitling Navitimer

Angelo Palazzi puts on a Breitling Navitimer to complete his Derval outfit. By the time James Bond takes the watch off Palazzi's dead body and hands it to Derval's sister Domino as proof her brother is dead, it's been on three different wrists.

Paul Stassino plays Palazzi in Terence Young's Thunderball (1965). SPECTRE's plot is to ransom two atomic bombs they've stolen from a RAF Avro Vulcan bomber. The theft works because Palazzi has been surgically altered to look like Major François Derval, the dead French Air Force NATO pilot whose place Palazzi takes on a Vulcan training mission. The watch is the last piece of the disguise.

The Navitimer 806 had been designed in 1952 at the request of the US Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, which wanted a chronograph pilots could use to do flight calculations on the wrist. The slide rule on the outer bezel handles fuel burn, ground speed, distance conversion, climb rate. Breitling released it to the public in 1956. By 1965 it had gained white subdials, and the version Palazzi wears is the fourth-generation 806: Venus 178 chronograph movement, steel case, three white subdials, slide-rule outer bezel, black leather strap with black stitching. The dial logo never resolves clearly enough on screen to tell whether it carries Breitling's twin-jet emblem or the older AOPA wings.

The watch travels from a dead pilot to his impostor to a spy to the dead pilot's sister.
