Paul Newman plays Andrew Craig in The Prize, a washed-up American novelist who travels to Stockholm to accept a Nobel Prize he won for work he did years ago before he started writing pulp detective stories to pay the bills. Mark Robson directed this 1963 thriller, which turns the Nobel ceremonies into the backdrop for a Cold War kidnapping plot. Craig, drunk and cynical, becomes convinced that a German physicist has been replaced by an impostor, and nobody believes him because he is exactly the kind of person who would make up a wild story. Newman plays Craig as a man who has stopped taking himself seriously and is surprised to discover he still has principles. Elke Sommer plays his reluctant Swedish chaperone, who gets pulled into the conspiracy when Craig turns out to be right. His watch has not been identified.
