In the early summer of 2002, two South Korean patrol boats were guarding a fishing fleet near the disputed sea border west of Yeonpyeong Island when a North Korean vessel opened fire. The clash lasted about half an hour, and six South Korean sailors aboard the patrol boat Chamsuri-357 were killed. Northern Limit Line, directed by Kim Hak-soon in 2015, dramatizes that engagement and the crew who lived through it, with Park Jeong-Hak in a supporting part as Major Lee Dae-Joon.
His watch is the kind of detail the film never pauses on. It has long been called a Rolex Datejust, but nothing on screen backs that up: the available frames stay on the deck and the action rather than the wrist, and no clear shot of Major Lee's watch survives. For now the Datejust is a lead rather than a fact, waiting on a frame that actually shows the man's wrist.
