Owen Wilson wears a Rolex Submariner

A year after their father is killed by a taxi, three estranged brothers meet in India for what the eldest calls a spiritual journey across the country by train. Francis (Owen Wilson) has organized all of it, down to laminated daily itineraries, and his face is wrapped in bandages from a recent motorcycle crash that he later admits was a suicide attempt. Peter (Adrien Brody) and Jack (Jason Schwartzman) come along without quite knowing why. They are carrying their dead father's luggage, stamped with his initials, and a good deal of what else he left behind. What Francis has not told them is that the trip ends at a convent in the Himalayas, where their mother, who skipped the funeral, is now living as a nun.

Francis wears a Rolex for the journey, though which Rolex is harder to settle than it sounds. The watch press that has looked at the film reads it as a green-bezel Submariner, the Kermit reference 16610LV that Rolex introduced in 2003 for the model's fiftieth anniversary. Others have called it a GMT-Master II, the Submariner's close cousin with a second time-zone hand. No clean view of the dial decides it, and for much of the film Francis's wrist is taped along with the rest of him. The Submariner reading fits the period and comes with a film still attached; the GMT version rests on an aggregator's lookalike tag and a retailer's note, and the specific GMT reference some cite only reached the market in 2007. On the evidence available, it is most defensibly a green-bezel Rolex Submariner, with the exact model short of certain.
