Kenny Bostick spends a calendar year crossing North America to see more bird species than anyone else alive. Owen Wilson plays him in The Big Year, David Frankel's 2011 comedy, as the reigning record holder who goes back into the field to defend his title against two challengers played by Steve Martin and Jack Black. He spends the year in airports and the field, always moving, and the watch on his wrist is the one Rolex built for crossing time zones.

It is a steel GMT-Master II, the Pepsi. On the poster, where Bostick lifts his binoculars in a yellow rain shell, the watch reads clearly: a black dial, the Mercedes hour hand, and a red 24-hour hand pointing down past six. That red hand is the point of the model. It tracks a second time zone against the blue bezel. Rolex first built the GMT-Master in the 1950s for Pan Am pilots who needed to know two times at once, and the steel Pepsi of this era is the reference 16710.

The watch is Owen Wilson's own. SwissWatchExpo, cataloguing his Rolexes, notes that "Owen has worn the Rolex Pepsi in several of his films, from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) to Wedding Crashers (2005) and The Big Year (2011)," and adds that he often wears his personal watches on screen.
