Before The Italian Job, before the Ocean's films, The League of Gentlemen (1960) established the template for the gentleman heist movie. Basil Dearden directed Jack Hawkins as Lt. Col. Hyde, a cashiered army officer who recruits seven fellow ex-military men — each disgraced in his own way — to rob a bank using military precision. Bryan Forbes wrote the script and also acts in it. The film plays the planning as the entertainment, each man's specific skill slotting into the operation like a military briefing.

Norman Bird plays Weaver, one of the recruited men. In this black-and-white still, several of the conspirators sit around a dining table in suits, a watch visible on one wrist — round case, likely steel. For ex-officers in 1960, a steel watch would have been standard. Many of these men would still be wearing whatever they had from the war or something close to it. The make and model haven't been identified.
