Andrew Niccol's Lord of War (2005) follows Nicolas Cage's Yuri Orlov, a Ukrainian-American arms dealer who sells Kalashnikovs to warlords with cheerful detachment while narrating his own moral collapse. In the scene where he hands a gold-plated AK-47 to the Liberian warlord Andre Baptiste, a Rolex sits on his wrist: a dress watch with a light dial and a metal bracelet, unmistakably a Rolex even if the frame cannot resolve the exact reference.
Watch writers identify it as a Rolex Day-Date, the brand's flagship dress watch, introduced in 1956 as the first wristwatch to spell out the day of the week in full and made only in gold or platinum. Several go further and call it Cage's own platinum Day-Date, since he is a well-documented Rolex collector, though that is reported rather than confirmed on screen. Either way it is the right watch for Yuri, a man who wants every room to know exactly what he can afford.
