Paul Schrader wrote and directed Dying of the Light, then the studio took it away from him, re-edited it, rescored it, and released it without his input in 2014. Schrader, Cage, and Anton Yelchin protested by wearing T-shirts printed with the non-disparagement clause from their contracts. Cage plays Evan Lake, a veteran CIA agent suffering from frontal temporal dementia who goes rogue when his protege Milton Schultz, played by Yelchin, uncovers evidence that the terrorist who tortured Lake twenty years earlier is still alive. The film Schrader wanted to make was apparently a character study about a man losing his mind while chasing his last mission. What the studio released is a 94-minute thriller that nobody involved wanted to put their name on.
Lake wears a watch on his left wrist, barely visible beneath his suit cuffs in the action scenes. The brand has not been identified.
