Nathan Fillion wears a Longines Evidenza

At 9:12 in the morning, early in White Noise 2: The Light, Rebecca Dale gives her husband Abe an anniversary present. It is a Longines, engraved with the words Nine Years Into Forever. Patrick Lussier directed the 2007 film, and the marriage it opens on does not last. Abe, played by Nathan Fillion, loses his wife and son, survives his own suicide attempt, and comes back from the near-death experience able to see a pale glow around people who are about to die. Katee Sackhoff plays Sherry Clarke, and in one scene Abe pulls a gun on her in a diner as the police close in.

The watch is a Longines Evidenza, reference L2.671.4.78.4, and the film gives it a long, clean close-up in Abe's palm. The case is a steel tonneau, the Art Deco barrel shape Longines has been making since the 1920s. Its silvered dial carries blue Arabic numerals and blued hands, with a day window and a month window across the top and a combined date and moon phase at six o'clock. The movement is automatic, the strap stitched brown leather. The moon phase is an unusual complication to hang on a thriller, since it belongs to dress watches and measures the one cycle that has nothing to do with appointments or deadlines.
