Yoshitaka Toake heads the Toshokai, the crime syndicate at the center of Hell Dogs (2022), and the film dresses him apart from every other yakuza in it: pale suits and white gloves. Miyavi plays him. The guitarist had spent two decades as a rock musician before Angelina Jolie cast him in Unbroken in 2014, and the screen work since (Kong: Skull Island among it) has run alongside the music and, from 2017, a UNHCR goodwill ambassadorship. Masato Harada adapted Akio Fukamachi's book into what City on Fire called an unpretentious potboiler that delivers on its tagline, "Pure. Violence.": Junichi Okada plays an ex-cop, wrecked by a robbery killing, who goes undercover in Toake's organization under the name Tak and befriends its most volatile young member, Muro, played by Kentaro Sakaguchi.
The watch identification comes from Montres-de-luxe, the French column that logs the watches in films: Toake wears a Franck Muller Vanguard. The frame the column published shows both why the claim is plausible and why it is hard to push further. Seen from behind, holding a glass sphere up against the Golden Bough building, Toake has a pale tonneau-shaped watch strapped over his white glove, the curved barrel case Franck Muller built his Geneva brand on after founding it in 1991 as the self-styled Master of Complications. The Vanguard, launched in 2014, is the sporty modern version of that case. No shot reads the dial, and no other outlet has logged the watch at all, so the model rests on that single French entry, with the tonneau silhouette over the glove as its visual support.
