Michael Cimino's Year of the Dragon (1985) casts Mickey Rourke as Captain Stanley White, a decorated Vietnam veteran and openly racist NYPD officer who sets out to break the drug operation that the ambitious young gang leader Joey Tai (John Lone) runs in Chinatown. Oliver Stone co-wrote the screenplay with Cimino, and the film drew protests from Asian-American groups over its depiction of Chinatown. It was Rourke at the height of his early run, between Diner, The Pope of Greenwich Village, and the films that came after.
White wears a Rolex Datejust, identified as the two-tone gold-and-steel version. Rolex introduced the Datejust in 1945 as the first wristwatch with a date that changes automatically on the dial, read through the small cyclops lens on the crystal, and it sits in the middle of the range, between the plain Oyster Perpetual and the gold Day-Date.
