On a steep San Francisco street, Anne Weying walks with a phone at one ear and a paper coffee cup in her other hand. She is a lawyer, ex-fiancee to a journalist who is about to wreck both their careers, and on her left wrist is a small rectangular watch: a pale dial in an upright case, set on a slim gold-tone bracelet. It is a Hamilton from the American Classic line, the Ardmore Quartz.
The Ardmore is an old design with a modern movement. Hamilton, an American maker, first drew it in the 1930s, an Art Deco rectangle from the height of that style, and the shape has lasted well enough that the same family appears on Matt Damon's Tom Ripley, the mysterious 1950s anti-hero of the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley. What Michelle Williams wears is the line's modern women's quartz. Hamilton put it in front of two cameras in 2018. Williams wore it here, as Anne. Julia Roberts wore the same model that year, as Heidi Bergman in the Prime Video series Homecoming.
Venom, directed by Ruben Fleischer and released in October 2018, took its San Francisco setting from the Lethal Protector comics and paired Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock with an alien symbiote. Anne is the one drawn into the damage. She is preparing a lawsuit defense for the Life Foundation when Eddie's reporting costs them both their jobs, and late in the film she briefly becomes the symbiote's host herself, a She-Venom turn Fleischer kept quiet until release. The watch never gets a close-up. The identification comes from Hamilton, which lists the Ardmore Quartz as the watch she wore.
