Detective Ben Nolan gets sent to a prison to figure out whether a convicted prostitute is telling the truth about being kidnapped. It is not a glamorous assignment. Michael Madsen plays Nolan in Anthony Pierce's 2013 thriller Terrible Angels, and the role fits Madsen's late-career mode: the weary authority figure in a small production, lending weight by sheer presence. Pierce wrote and directed the film, which follows Nolan's interviews with Linda Grossel as her story shifts between victim and manipulator.
