Obispo Losa, the man everyone calls Bishop, runs the Santo Padre charter of the Mayans Motorcycle Club, and Michael Irby plays him as the most controlled man in a show full of men who cannot control themselves. Mayans M.C., the FX series Kurt Sutter and Elgin James spun out of Sons of Anarchy, sets its club along the California border in the same drug-and-loyalty machinery that ran Sutter's first show, and Bishop is the president trying to hold the chapter together as it tears at the seams.
On his wrist is a Red Monkey, the model the maker named Bishop after the character. It is a 46mm case set into a two-inch black distressed leather cuff studded down its length, the heaviest, most armored piece in Red Monkey Designs' watch line, from the Los Angeles leather house behind guitar straps and cuffs for KISS and Metallica. A club president whose authority rests on never flinching wears a watch built like a piece of kit, and the show lets it ride at the edge of the frame the way a patch or a ring would, part of the uniform rather than a flourish.
