Michael Caine wears a Seiko SUP880

There is exactly one good look at Brian Reader's watch in King of Thieves (2018), and it comes mid-reconnaissance: Michael Caine holds a small camera to his eye, and on the wrist braced against his face sits a rectangular gold watch with a white Roman numeral dial on a black leather strap. James Marsh's film dramatizes the Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary of 2015, in which a gang of elderly career criminals took more than fourteen million pounds in jewels and cash over Easter weekend. Caine's Reader is the veteran who plans it, alongside a pension-age crew played by Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Ray Winstone, Paul Whitehouse, and, as the young outsider "Basil," Charlie Cox.

The identification belongs to the crowd. A poster on the r/Watches forum grabbed that frame and asked, "Looks like a Seiko SUP880. Can anyone confirm?" The top answer: "Yup, looks like a SUP880. Pretty cool to see him wear an affordable watch." The poster himself admitted the limits of the evidence, noting the watch "only appears once and it's a blurry moving shot with no brand clearly shown." The frame supports them better than they claimed. The SUP880 is Seiko's solar quartz take on the rectangular Tank-style dress watch, white dial, black Roman numerals, gold-plated case, and that is precisely the watch in the shot, even if no logo ever resolves.

Reader's arc in the film runs the way the real case did: he backs out of the heist early over safety concerns, tries later to force a larger cut, and is arrested at home while the others meet to divide the loot.
