Pulp (1972) is Mike Hodges' crime comedy. Michael Caine plays Mickey King, a writer of cheap paperback thrillers living on Malta, who is hired by a reclusive former Hollywood actor, Preston Gilbert (Mickey Rooney), to ghost-write his memoirs. The job turns dangerous once the people around Gilbert start turning up dead.
The watch is Caine's own yellow gold Rolex Day-Date on a President bracelet, the one he bought once he had made it and wore through his films of the early 1970s. It does not get a clear close-up in Pulp. Rolex made the Day-Date only in gold or platinum and gave it a dial that spells the day out in full, the first wristwatch to do so when it launched in 1956.
