Woody Allen's Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), structured between two Thanksgiving dinners, is held up by many as his best film. Mia Farrow is Hannah, Barbara Hershey is Lee, Dianne Wiest is Holly, Max von Sydow is the reclusive painter Frederick, and Allen plays Mickey, the hypochondriac ex-husband. Michael Caine won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Elliot, Hannah's husband, who pursues her sister Lee behind her back with the guilt of a man who knows he is wrecking something good and cannot stop.
Caine wears his own Rolex, a Day-Date "Oysterquartz," reference 19018, in 18-karat yellow gold with a champagne dial. Rolex introduced the Oysterquartz in 1977, built around its own in-house quartz caliber 5055 rather than a bought-in movement, and gave it an angular, integrated case that broke sharply from the rounded Oyster, closer in spirit to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak than to anything else Rolex made. Caine's example later sold at auction for more than $160,000.
