Michael B. Jordan wears a Hamilton Khaki X-Wind

In a flashback in Raising Dion, Michael B. Jordan stands in a cluttered workshop, grinning, both hands on a half-built metal frame, a black-strapped chronograph on his wrist. He plays Mark Warren, the father of the boy the Netflix series is named for, dead before its present-day story begins. That death leaves his widow Nicole to raise their son Dion alone as the boy starts to manifest powers, and Jordan, who also executive-produced, appears mostly in flashback.

The watch is a Hamilton Khaki Aviation X-Wind Auto Chrono, a 44-millimeter steel pilot's chronograph that Hamilton names on its own Hollywood watch-spotting page. It runs the brand's automatic H-21, a Valjoux 7750 base stretched to a sixty-hour reserve, and it sells for a little over two thousand dollars. The name is short for crosswind. Hamilton built the watch around a drift-angle calculator, a set of rotating scales a pilot works to read how far a crosswind is shoving the plane off its heading and how much to steer back. By the company's account it was the first wristwatch to carry one, developed in 2005 with the aerobatic pilot Nicolas Ivanoff.

So Warren spends his flashbacks in a watch built to put a number on the wind, on the wrist of a man the show's storm takes. The series writes off his death as a drowning, his body never recovered, and a drift-angle scale that keeps a pilot on course is no use to a man already gone when the story starts. Hamilton has been putting its watches on screen since 1932, by its own count in more than five hundred movies and shows.
